This is a traditional rustic style that utilizes a board installed vertically; edge to edge with a narrow board installed vertically covering the joint between the larger boards. We typically use a 1×10 or 1×12 for the main board and a 1×3 or 1×4 for the batt. It has a very visible circle sawn face the looks very traditional. We have also provided sizes up to 1×24 for the boards and almost any size for the batts. One of the very good looking alternatives to the traditional square cut batt is a wane edged batt. We can vary the width of this from an average of 3-4 inches to up to 7 or 8 inches. This looks very rustic. We typically saw this from Ponderosa Pine, but can cut this out of Douglas Fir or Western Red Cedar.
